The reincarnated Cardinals have officially added a big time pitcher to their roster, and are in contract negotiations with, allegedly, two more top tier free agents. We will talk to Zac Longo and their newest addition, Tom Tierney.
Zac: Absolutely, after I finish working out a couple more off season moves. You're going be asking them if it has what to take to compete with us. Believe me!
Ley: What do you believe is the teams greatest strength going into Spring Training ? Where do you think you'll need to improve to be able to reach the Championship ?
Zac: I think we are around solid team all around. We have 3 players that were in the top 10 in home runs, and like I said before one of my targets that I'm in talks with was also inside the top 10 of home runs as well. So we will definitely bring some power and I also believe we will bring a tremendous amount of speed and smarts on the base paths. Also I think are defense will be very solid.
Ley: This league has proven to be a pitchers league. Do you think the Cards will have enough pitching to be able to compete against the elite teams in the league?
Zac: This league has definitely evolved into a pitchers league, but with Chris coming in as our #1 and Tierney as our projected #2 I think we will be just fine. Everyone that we are in talks with and have on a our current roster are capable of going out there and getting us a win.
Ley: Who represents each league in the big game, and who wins it all?
Zac: I think barring any injuries I'm going have to say the Rebirth Cards make it back to the big game, and I think from the Hess division it's going be either Indians or the Braves. I don't think the defending champion Braves want to see the Cards in the big game so I'm going with my Cards of course I don't expect anything less. I got to have confidence in my team.
And now we will talk to Tom Tierney and his signing with the Cardinals:
Ley: What made you decide to sign with the Cardinals and what will be your role with them?
Tom Tierney: I was told I would be part of the rotation, of course that depends on who else we sign and what not. I'll most likely be pitching any game I'm available and able, like previous years I still have a first priority of summer baseball. I can assure you I will be at every game I can make it to though.
Ley: Did you have any other compelling offers or were the Cardinals really the only team looking to sign you?
T²: The Cardinals were only one of two offers. Very early on at the end of last season I received an offer from the Mets but the truth is I was only playing if I was playing with friends, nothing against the Mets I just don't know them, they seem like a great group of guys though.
Ley: The Cardinals are quickly turning into a powerhouse team. How do you feel about the upcoming season?
T²: I am confident we will compete and should make the playoffs with Zac Longo and the Horwedel's offensive ability and the arm of Chris Horwedel alone, I only hope to contribute the best I can.
