Hitting
Apparently Matt did not receive the same hitting gene as his
brother, it was often a struggle at the plate batting just .184 and
often reduced to the role of drawing walks. The Yankees have
supposedly hired a hitting coach to help Matt progress but the
fruits of that labor remains to be seen.
Pitching
Matt improved increasingly on the mound throughout the year
and had the Yanks within an inning of a game 1 upset of the #1
seed Nats. He finished 3-1 in 4 starts and is the foundation around
which the Yankees will build their pitching staff and team, look
for all-star type numbers from Matt this year.
